The Galaxy Tower in Utrecht is the last piece of the redevelopment jigsaw around the Jaarbeursplein. It resolves a number of important functional issues. And the process leading up to its development is the fruit of a unique collaboration.
SENS is supervising the development and construction of the apartments and the underground car park on behalf of the investors, Spoorweg Pensioenfonds & Stichting Pensioenfonds Openbaar Vervoer. The collaboration between one of these funds, SPF, and SENS is quite unique: SENS is using its expertise as a developer to help SPF, the investor, on the development of the apartments. The entire project is a joint effort between developer and investor, which makes it easier to share relevant know-how and experience with our partners and so enhance the quality of the end result. Construction work is expected to commence in 2018 and completion is planned for 2021.
The Galaxy Tower is a unique combination of a 250-room 4-star hotel and 330 high-end and upmarket rental apartments. The 90-metre tower will be realised by Amrâth Hotels & Restaurant on the Jaarbeursplein, opposite Utrecht Central Station and the Beatrix Theatre. The building will form a crucial link between the businesses on the Jaarbeursplein and the new residential area being developed there. The tower is being built according to sustainable principles: solar panels on the roof and the façade will keep down the building’s energy consumption, for example.
